Right in the middle of summer, when a little night magic is in order, Margot Day of Metamorph summoned all her familiar spirits to conjure up a powerful new tune, “Woo Woo.” Riffing on themes of witchcraft in a playful way, the tune is perfect for the dance floor with its irresistible beats and sweetly seductive melodies.

One of Day’s familiar spirits is Erik Gustafson, a goth rocker with Adoration Destroyed, who produced the tune, including a processed flute sound with an ambience I’ve never heard on a recording before (I’m pretty sure it’s the first of its kind). The chorus is as catchy as they come, and in the verses Day delivers bewitching lyrics in a rapid fire way.

PSYKLON Productions created the cool lyric video, with Day glamming in up as a goth cat, in a badass costume resembling Michelle Pfeiffer’s turn as Catwoman in the 1992 film, Batman Returns, directed by Tim Burton.

I had the opportunity to ask Day a couple quick questions about her inspirations for this tune.

Popular Culture Beat: It seems you intentionally wrote an earworm – or was it more a case of serendipity?
Margot Day: Intention and serendipity. The melodies haunt me – I have no choice but to capture them, and share.

Popular Culture Beat: Is that a heavily processed flute in the intro and solo? Amazing sounds. Did Erik surprise you with that suggestion, or did you suggest a trippy flute solo?
Margot Day: I asked Erik to process the flute. Erik alchemized and made this a super fun production. We collaborate. It’s pure magic.
